概要
Molecules is an application for viewing three-dimensional renderings of molecules and manipulating them using your fingers. You can rotate the molecules by moving your finger across the display, zoom in or out by using two-finger pinch gestures, or pan the molecule by moving two fingers across the screen at once. These structures can be viewed in both ball-and-stick and spacefilling visualization modes.
Molecules can be stored on your handheld device for later viewing and are loaded via a standard document-based file browser.
Custom molecular structures can be downloaded to the application via file sharing or iCloud, and obtained via sources like the RCSB Protein Data Bank (http://www.rcsb.org/pdb), an international repository of biological molecules and their 3-D structures, or NCBI's PubChem (http://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov), a public database of compounds. - 少し物足りない いわゆるpymolやmolmolのような構造を見るソフトに似ているが，pymolを使い慣れた人にはあまり意味がない．自分の見たところ，sequence表示やcartoon表示などはなく，pdb fileを開けますといった程度．pymolのiPad版は是非とも欲しいが，pdb fileを持ち歩く必要があり，たとえ見づらくても構造を見たい人にはお勧めか．無料だし，iPadでpdb fileを開ける(Webからkey wordでdownload出来る)事に関しては感動ものです．

個人的には式を入力しての検索が出来ると嬉しい
(H₂OやC₆H₄(OH)COOHと入力しての検索が不可)
その他、(標準生成)エンタルピーの表示も欲しいかも
- 核酸やタンパク質の立体表示です。 ネットのフリーのデータベースから情報を落として
高次構造を表示できるアプリです。
ノーベル賞を受賞したGFPの構造も見ることができます。
表示されたモデルをiPodでもグリグリ動かせるとは、びっくりしました。
ただ、生化学や分子生物学の知識がそれなりにないと
単なるオブジェのようにしか見えないかもしれません。
欲を言えば、ですが
水や二酸化炭素、アミノ酸程度の小さい分子のモデルを表示できる
win版のchemsketchのような機能があると更に嬉しいですね。
